We've had these photos around for some time in draft post form, and wanted to get them out there. This little place, which is well out of the way for most visitors to Chicago, is incredible -- and cheap, too. Afghan food, as you might expect geographically, has influences from Indian, Asian, and Middle Eastern cuisines, but it is uniquely its own thing. If you're in Chicago, this place is well worth the detour!
(Remember, you can click on the photos to see larger versions. Well worth doing with some of these.)
Bulanee: deep-fried turnovers. One is the Kachaloo variety (potatoes and herbs), the other two are Gandana (chopped leek, cilantro, and herbs)
Mantu (steamed dumplings filled with beef, topped with yogurt and a meat sauce)
Sabzi (pureed spinach)
Side order of Chicken Shish Kabob
The star of the show: Kabuli Pulaw, with an amazingly tender lamb shank under brown Basmati rice with sauteed shredded carrots and raisins
