Tammy of Tammy's Tastings is beginning a new tradition: Tammy's Tastings Supper Club fundraisers. Some of you may know Tammy more for her chocolate truffles and workshops, but she also loves to cook and she's pretty darned good at it. And I speak from authority since I've actually gotten to enjoy several of her dinners. :-)
Enjoy a gourmet dinner using fresh seasonal and locally grown ingredients cooked and served up by Tammy herself. Seating is limited to just eight people — a truly intimate dining experience for food-passionate people. Each month's dinner will support a different local food organization.
This first dinner is this coming Saturday, June 6 and will support Preserving Traditions, a non-profit local club dedicated to keeping alive and sharing food-preservation knowledge and building support for our local "foodshed."

Continue the summer food-fun the following week by heading over to the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds for Food Gatherers' Grillin' 2009 fundraiser, on Sunday June 14, from 3pm to 8pm.
Food Gatherers is an invaluable resource to our community, providing food relief to many families who would otherwise go hungry. Their trucks run 6 days a week, rescuing food that would be thrown away and redistributing it to people who want to eat it. Food Gatherers works to "reduce food waste through the rescue and distribution of perishable and non-perishable food; coordinating with other hunger relief providers; educating the public about hunger; and developing new food resources."
Michigan has had it rough for many years now, and the last year has been particularly difficult for many families. Demand on food banks is high, and support has been falling. Our area was particularly hard-hit by the departure of Pfizer, which used to provide significant financial support to numerous charities. If you are fortunate enough to be doing well during this tough time, do consider finding a way to help our local community. Food Gatherers is a great way to do this (they have a four-star rating through Charity Navigator). You can donate directly or come to their amazing summer Grillin' 2009 picnic.
