Dinner tonight:
Marcella Hazan's Bolognese recipe served with whole wheat pasta. (Yes, I like whole wheat pasta. I like the firm texture and nutty flavor.) If you can eat cheese (we can't, but that's another story), add some freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano. I love this dish, but it takes forever to cook. A few years ago, I decided that for my birthday I wanted to cook for a bunch of friends. So I threw a dinner party for 12, and this was the main course I served. (I can't remember what I cooked for the vegetarians.)
I had left over wine and garden tomatos begging to be used in a bolognese meat sauce. And I knew in advance that I would need a quick dinner for tonight. So I put it in the pot to simmer Monday night and put it in the 'fridge. When I got home from work, alll I needed to do was cook the pasta and warm the meat sauce. While the pasta cooked, I made a quick salad of baby spinach and rocket with toasted pine nuts and apples.
I'll try to remember to add the ragu recipe here when I have a chance.
I do love this bolognese recipe so. Your picture is wonderful; it's making me hungry.

I too like whole wheat pasta, and love bolognese sause. My favorite version uses ground pork, fresh herbs, and is topped with whipped fresh ricotta.
